Why Your Clinic Doesn’t Show Up on Google (And Exactly How to Fix It)

If you’ve ever searched for your own practice on Google and felt a little sting when it barely showed up – or didn’t show up at all – you’re not alone. For many small holistic and alternative health practitioners, this is one of the most frustrating parts of running a clinic. You’ve built something genuinely meaningful. You help people. You show up every day with real skill and care. And yet, when someone in your area searches for “naturopath near me” or “holistic therapist [your suburb],” your clinic is nowhere to be found.

Not showing up on Google is a digital structure problem and the good news is, it’s fixable. Let’s discuss why it happens and what you can do about it, step by step.

You Haven’t Claimed or Optimised Your Google Business Profile

This is the single most common reason holistic clinics stay invisible online. Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is the free tool that puts your clinic on Google Maps and in the local search results. If you haven’t claimed yours, Google either can’t find you, or it’s displaying an incomplete, unverified listing that inspires zero confidence in potential clients.

Even practitioners who have claimed their profile often leave it half-finished – no photos, no description, no services listed, no updated hours. Google rewards completeness. A thin profile tells the algorithm you’re not an active, relevant business.

Fix it:

Search for your clinic name on Google Maps. If a listing exists, claim it. If it doesn’t, create one at business.google.com. Fill in every single field. Your business name, address, phone number, website, hours, service categories, a detailed description, and at least ten quality photos. This alone can shift your visibility significantly within a few weeks.
